Welcome to my website! My name is Sophie Switzer and I am 18 years old. I was born in raised in North Vancouver, BC, but have absolutely loved the time I’ve spent in Victoria since beginning school here. I am currently in my second year at UVIC and I’m in the elementary education program. For as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to teach elementary school and I’ve always been inspired by my own teachers. I’ve grown up babysitting, coaching soccer camps, and tutoring. This exposure to working with kids has confirmed that teaching is the perfect job for me, which has motivated me to continue to work towards that goal.

Aside from my passion for teaching and working with children, my hobbies mostly relate to physical activity. I’ve played soccer since I was five and played very competitively throughout high school. I am now on an intramural soccer team through UVIC, which has been an amazing way to incorporate a hobby of mine into my busy school schedule. I spend a lot of time in the gym, I love working out and challenging myself athletically. Another hobby of mine is hiking, which I will be exploring further on this website. I find hiking to be such a productive use of my time because I am able to incorporate being in nature, socializing, exercising, learning, and exploring all into one activity. Some strengths I have that have stemmed from sports/athletics include teamwork, discipline, a good work ethic, and the desire to effectively collaborate with others.

Something that I hope to do more in my future is travel. I’ve gotten the opportunity to travel to some amazing places growing up such as Botswana in Africa, Greece and Croatia, and Hawaii. I find travelling to be such an eye-opening experience through being exposed to other cultures and ways of living that are different from my own. I would also love to teach internationally one day to get a different perspective on education in other countries.

I am looking forward to this course because I am eager to expand my knowledge of technology, learn some valuable skills, and explore my own interests more. I have already learned a lot by trying to navigate and set up this website!
